Öz:
The Mind and Its Education adlı eserinde George Herbert Betts insan zihninin yapısını ve bunun eğitimle ilişkisini ele alır. Kitapta duyum, algı, hafıza, hayal gücü, düşünme ve duygular gibi temel zihinsel süreçler açıklanarak bunların öğrenme sürecindeki işlevleri incelenir. Betts’e göre etkili eğitim, zihnin nasıl çalıştığını ve nasıl geliştiğini anlamayı gerektirir. Eserde psikoloji ile pedagoji arasında güçlü bir bağ kurulmakta ve öğretimin dikkat, motivasyon ve anlamlı öğrenmeyi destekleyecek biçimde düzenlenmesi gerektiği vurgulanmaktadır. Ayrıca zihin ve beden arasındaki bütünlük ile çevre ve deneyimin bireyin zihinsel ve ahlaki gelişimindeki rolü üzerinde durulmaktadır.
