Memes’in History of Sculpture, Painting, and Architecture (Heykel, Resim ve Mimarlık Tarihi, 1829) adlı çalışması, görsel sanatların tarihsel gelişimini ve estetik ilkelerini ayrıntısıyla ele alan 19. yüzyıl yapıtıdır. Memes; sanatsal ifadenin gelişimini Antik Mısır, Asur ve Klasik Yunan kökenlerinden başlayarak Roma, Orta Çağ ve Rönesans dönemleri üzerinden 19. yüzyıla kadar takip eder. Eser; mimari formların, heykeltıraşlık gerçekçiliğinin ve resim kompozisyonlarının toplumsal gelişimi nasıl yansıttığını açıklayarak her bir disipline ait teknikleri ve üslup yeniliklerini kategorize eder. Sanat tarihinin kurumsallaştığı dönemde yazılan bu kitap, genel okuyucuya estetik bir bakış açısı ve tarihsel farkındalık kazandırmayı amaçlar.
