Élie Halévy’nin La Formation du Radicalisme Philosophique (Felsefi Radikalizmin Oluşumu) adlı eseri, İngiliz faydacılığının (utilitaryanizm) kökenlerini ve gelişimini izleyen bir entelektüel tarih başyapıtıdır. Halévy, Jeremy Bentham ve aralarında James Mill’in de bulunduğu öğrencilerinin düşüncelerini titizlikle inceleyerek; onların felsefesinin “en büyük sayının en büyük mutluluğu” ilkesine dayanarak hukuk, siyaset ve ekonomide nasıl reform yapmayı amaçladığını analiz eder. La Formation du Radicalisme Philosophique (The Growth of Philosophic Radicalism) by Élie Halévy is a masterwork of intellectual history that traces the origins and development of British utilitarianism. Halévy meticulously examines the thought of Jeremy Bentham and his disciples, including James Mill, analyzing how their philosophy sought to reform jurisprudence, politics, and economics based on the principle of the “greatest happiness for the greatest number.” The book explores the synthesis of associationist psychology, classical political economy, and legal reform that defined the Philosophical Radicals.
