James Mark Baldwin’in The Individual and Society or Psychology and Sociology adlı eseri, kişisel zihinsel gelişim ile toplumsal yapılar arasındaki temel ilişkiye dair öncü bir inceleme sunar. Baldwin, birey ve toplumun birbirinden ayrı ya da karşıt olgular olduğu düşüncesini reddederek, her ikisinin de bütünleşik bir toplumsal sürecin birlikte gelişen bileşenleri olduğunu savunur. “Kişisel gelişimin diyalektiği” kavramı aracılığıyla, öz-bilincin toplumsal etkileşim, taklit ve buluş süreçleriyle nasıl ortaya çıktığını açıklar. Abstract:
The Individual and Society or Psychology and Sociology by James Mark Baldwin presents a pioneering exploration into the foundational relationship between personal mental development and social structures. Baldwin refutes the notion of the individual and society as separate, opposing entities, arguing instead that they are co-developing components of a unified social process. Through his concept of the “dialectic of personal growth,” he explains how self-consciousness emerges through social interaction, imitation, and invention.
