Öz:
David Snedden’in Sociological Determination of Objectives in Education (Eğitimde Amaçların Sosyolojik Olarak Belirlenmesi, 1921) adlı eseri, toplumsal verimlilik kuramı ve müfredat reformu alanında öncü bir çalışmadır.
Abstract:
David Snedden’s Sociological Determination of Objectives in Education (1921) is a pioneering work in social efficiency theory and curriculum reform. Snedden argues that modern educational objectives should not be derived from abstract traditions or individual desires, but rather from a scientific, sociological analysis of societal needs. He advocates for “social efficiency,” proposing that education should explicitly prepare students for distinct social, vocational, and civic roles. The text breaks down the curriculum into practical units designed to optimize productivity, social stability, and citizenship. Snedden’s work laid the groundwork for modern vocational training, standardized educational planning, and functional curriculum development in American public education.
