Walter Rauschenbusch’un bu çığır açan eseri, geleneksel Hristiyan ilahiyatını 20. yüzyılın başındaki toplumsal reform perspektifinden yeniden ele alarak Sosyal İncil hareketinin ilahiyat zeminini oluşturur. Rauschenbusch, Hristiyanlığın yalnızca bireysel kurtuluşa odaklanmayıp yoksulluk, ekonomik sömürü ve kurumsal adaletsizlik gibi kolektif toplumsal sorunlarla da mücadele etmesi gerektiğini savunur. Günah, kurtuluş ve Tanrı’nın Krallığı gibi temel doktrinleri yeniden yorumlayarak günahın sadece bireysel değil, toplumsal yapılarda da var olduğunu belirtir. Abstract:
Walter Rauschenbusch’s seminal work reframes traditional Christian theology through the lens of early 20th-century social reform, forming the theological foundation for the Social Gospel movement. Rauschenbusch argues that Christianity must move beyond individual salvation to address collective social evils such as poverty, economic exploitation, and institutional injustice. He reinterprets core doctrines—including sin, redemption, and the Kingdom of God—arguing that sin manifests not only in personal actions but in systemic social structures. By advocating for the realization of God’s Kingdom on Earth, the book urges the Church to actively engage in transforming society toward economic equality, social justice, and collective moral responsibility.
