The Rover Boys at School; or, The Cadets of Putnam Hall by Edward Stratemeyer is the inaugural volume of the immensely popular Rover Boys series, introducing readers to the spirited brothers Tom, Sam, and Dick Rover. Sent to the Putnam Hall military academy by their uncle, the brothers quickly adapt to cadet life, engaging in athletic rivalries, military drills, and mischievous pranks. However, their school days are soon upended by malicious bullies, local schemers, and a plot threatening their family’s wealth. Combining fast-paced action, moral courage, and adolescent camaraderie, Stratemeyer’s novel set the enduring template for American juvenile series fiction at the turn of the 20th century.
