William DeWitt Hyde’s Outlines of Social Theology (1895) is a foundational text in the development of American Social Gospel theology. Hyde reinterprets traditional Christian doctrines—such as the Fatherhood of God, the Brotherhood of Man, and the Kingdom of God—through an explicitly social and ethical lens. He argues that true religion cannot exist as isolated, individualistic dogma or mystical quietism, but must realize itself through active social service, economic reform, and civic duty. By synthesizing Christian theology with late 19th-century sociological thought, Hyde presents faith as a dynamic force meant to transform community structures, foster social justice, and realize the divine presence within human society.

William DeWitt Hyde’ın Outlines of Social Theology (Sosyal Teolojinin Ana Hatları, 1895) adlı yapıtı, Amerikan “Sosyal İncil” (Social Gospel) teolojisinin gelişiminde temel kabul edilen eserlerden biridir. Hyde; Tanrı’nın babalığı, insanların kardeşliği ve Tanrı’nın Krallığı gibi geleneksel Hristiyan doktrinlerini açıkça toplumsal ve etik bir bakış açısıyla yeniden yorumlar. Gerçek dinin, bireysel dogmalardan veya münzevi bir mistik anlayıştan ibaret olamayacağını; aksine aktif sosyal hizmet, ekonomik reformlar ve vatandaşlık görevleri aracılığıyla somutlaşması gerektiğini savunur.
