Gerard Baldwin Brown’ın The Fine Arts (Güzel Sanatlar, 1891) adlı çalışması, insanoğlunun sanatsal ifadesinin kökenlerini, ilkelerini ve psikolojik temellerini inceleyen kuramsal bir yapıttır. Brown, sanatın ilkel ihtiyaçlardan, oyun güdüsünden ve dinsel ritüellerden gelişerek mimari, heykel ve resim gibi gelişkin disiplinlere dönüşümünü sistematik biçimde ele alır.
