<p><strong>Öz:</strong><br>Irving King’in <em>The Development of Religion: A Study in Anthropology and Social Psychology</em> (Dinin Gelişimi: Antropoloji ve Sosyal Psikoloji Üzerine Bir İnceleme, 1910) adlı eseri, dinin kökenlerini incelemek için işlevsel psikoloji ve sosyal antropoloji yaklaşımlarını uygulayan öncü bir çalışmadır. Dinin ortaya çıkışını yalnızca entelektüel veya animist kuramlarla açıklamaktan kaçınan King, dini bilincin toplumsal pratiklerden, geleneklerden ve kolektif duygusal deneyimlerden organik olarak doğduğunu savunur. Erken dönem insan ritüellerinin ve büyünün çevreye ve toplumsal ihtiyaçlara verilen pratik yanıtlar olduğunu, zamanla kurumsallaşmış dini inançlara ve sembollere dönüştüğünü inceler. King’in bu yapıtı, din biliminde işlevselci ve sosyo-psikolojik geleneklerin oluşmasına önemli katkılar sağlamıştır.<br><strong>Abstract:</strong><br>Irving King’s <em>The Development of Religion: A Study in Anthropology and Social Psychology</em> (1910) is a pioneering work that applies functional psychology and social anthropology to the study of religious origins. Moving away from purely intellectualist or animistic theories of religion, King argues that religious consciousness arises organically from social practice, custom, and collective emotional experiences. He analyzes how early human ritual and magic served as practical responses to environmental and social needs, gradually evolving into organized religious beliefs, symbols, and institutions. King’s work laid significant groundwork for the functionalist and social-psychological traditions in the scientific study of religion.</p>
