Bonham'ın <em>Secularism Its Progress and Its Morals</em> adlı eseri, seküler düşüncenin tarihsel gelişimini ve bu gelişimin modern ahlak anlayışı üzerindeki etkilerini eleştirel bir yaklaşımla inceler. Bonham, dini otoriteden uzaklaşıp ampirik bilgiye ve bilimsel akıl yürütmeye doğru yaşanan kademeli dönüşümün toplumun etik çerçevesini nasıl yeniden tanımladığını araştırır. Çalışma, ahlakın dini dogmalara bağımlı olmadığını, aksine insanın bilgi birikimi, toplumsal dayanışma ve rasyonel düşünceyle birlikte doğal olarak geliştiğini savunur.
