Broken Times<\/em>, the book you hold in your hands, belongs precisely to this third category. The stories told in this book are not merely a chronological account of past events. Each chapter is a memory bearing the traces of lives lived in different corners of Anatolia\u2014traces of teaching, friendship, loneliness, hope, and what it means to be human. At times you\u2019ll find yourself in a village school in I\u011fd\u0131r, at times on the streets of Kayseri, at times behind a computer screen during the pandemic, and at times in a warm village room from years past. Memories do not fade with time; on the contrary, they gain meaning. Because many emotions that one does not notice while living are rediscovered years later when looking back. This book is the product of that rediscovery. The pains experienced, the memories that bring a smile, the unforgettable people, and the events that leave a mark on the memory are not recounted as they were, but as they have been filtered through the heart.
