Trachtenberg systematically addresses the broad and often overlooked area between the normative-theological structure of Jewish religious thought and the practical reality of popular beliefs. The work aims to show that practices such as folk magic, demonology, protective rituals, talismans, amulets, and spirit summoning are intertwined not only with belief systems but also with social structure, psychology, and daily life practices. According to Trachtenberg, the Jewish tradition of magic was largely shaped by interaction with surrounding cultures\u2014particularly those of Babylon, Persia, Hellenistic Greece, and medieval Europe.
