Abstract:<\/strong>
\u201cWe weren\u2019t alone when we came into this world. As we lived our lives, we wanted our family, friends, and loved ones to be by our side. We were all like fingers on the same hand, but we weren\u2019t the same. Some of us were thumbs, some of us were pinkies. We were different from one another, but none of us felt superior to the others\u2014or at least, that\u2019s what we hoped. Some became happy stars, while others ended up unhappy and alone. We could never quite figure out whether the people around us truly loved us or not. We exhibited behaviors that didn\u2019t fit our age, our nature, or our environment. We broke whatever was around us, without meaning to. The more we broke, the more we were broken. Were we sick, or were we simply children with different potentials, perceptions, and emotions\u2014children waiting to be understood, to socialize, to be accepted, searching for a branch to hold onto along the winding paths of life? \u201cThis work was written with the understanding that while every person is \u2018special,\u2019 some are \u2018Twice Exceptional (2e)\u2019\u2014possessing not only superior intelligence but also facing challenges due to mental or socio-emotional development (such as Learning Disabilities, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Attention-Deficit\/Hyperactivity Disorder, etc.). It is hoped that this work will assist teachers and parents in recognizing children who experience this paradoxical situation\u2014where giftedness and challenges coexist\u2014in understanding their differences, and in helping those differences adapt through small adjustments to realize their full potential. We dedicate every page of this work to the \u201ctwice-exceptional\u201d children whose potential awaits discovery; to the parents who, alongside their children, are learning anew time and again on this challenging yet unique journey; and to the teachers who walk alongside them with unwavering faith.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
