He criticizes positivism for treating human phenomena as mere laboratory objects, while equally rejecting the arbitrariness of absolute subjectivism. Emphasizing the dialectical bond between the subject and the object, Goldmann introduces his theory of &#8220;genetic structuralism.&#8221; He argues that cultural, literary, and social structures are not products of isolated individual genius, but rather reflect the collective consciousness and mental structures of specific social classes.
