<p><strong>Öz:</strong><br>Victor Francis Calverton’ın <em>The Passing of the Gods</em> (Tanrıların Çöküşü, 1934) adlı yapıtı, din olgusunu Marksist sosyoloji açısından inceleyen önemli bir çalışmadır. Calverton, modern toplumda dini nüfuzun gerilemesini tarihsel materyalist bir yaklaşımla analiz ederek dini inançların, dogmaların ve kurumların temeldeki sınıf çıkarlarının ve ekonomik koşulların bir yansıması olduğunu savunur. Eser; egemen sınıfların dinsel yapıları tarih boyunca kendi iktidarlarını korumak ve ekonomik hegemonyalarını pekiştirmek için bir toplumsal denetim aracı olarak nasıl kullandıklarını inceler. Bilimsel rasyonalizmin, sanayileşmenin ve modern ekonomik düzenin gelişmesiyle birlikte geleneksel dini kalıpların işlevini yitirerek çökeceğini ve yerini seküler, sınıf bilincine dayalı bir topluma bırakacağını ileri sürer.<br><strong>Abstract:</strong><br>Victor Francis Calverton’s <em>The Passing of the Gods</em> (1934) is a prominent Marxist sociological study of religion. Calverton applies historical materialism to analyze the decline of religious influence in modern society, arguing that religious beliefs, dogmas, and institutions are structural reflections of underlying class interests and economic conditions. The text examines how dominant social classes historically used religion as a tool of social control to maintain power and consolidate economic hegemony. Calverton contends that as scientific rationalism, industrialization, and modern economic systems progress, traditional religious frameworks inevitably lose their function and decay, paving the way for a secular, class-conscious society.</p>
