Skolastik mantığın ve otoriteye dayalı bilgi anlayışının sınırlılıklarını eleştirerek ilerlemenin gözleme, tümevarıma ve düzenli deneye dayandığını savunur. Bacon, bilgi dallarını sınıflandırır, dönemin entelektüel eksiklerini ortaya koyar ve toplumsal faydayı merkeze alan yeni bir araştırma modeli tasarlar. Eser, erken modern felsefenin kurucu metinlerinden biri olarak bilimsel devrimin yöntemsel ilkelerinin şekillenmesinde belirleyici bir rol oynar.</p>
