Abstract:
Edward L. Thorndike’s landmark three-volume work Educational Psychology (1913–1914) established a rigorous scientific foundation for modern instructional theory and learning assessment. Moving away from philosophical speculation, Thorndike applied empirical research, statistical measurement, and behavioral analysis to human learning. He introduced foundational laws of learning—most notably the Law of Effect and the Law of Exercise—arguing that learning occurs through the strengthening or weakening of neural connections between stimuli and responses (Connectionism). The work systematically covers human nature, individual differences, the learning process, and intellectual measurement, cementing educational psychology as an independent, data-driven scientific discipline.
